It is realistic to think a covid-19 vaccine will start being rolled out here in January.
That's according to the head of the HSE Paul Reid, with a decision on who will receive the vaccine first still being made.
Mr Reid made the comments at the weekly HSE briefing which was held this afternoon.
It's believed nursing home residents, the elderly and frontline healthcare workers will be prioritised when vaccinations begin here.
A strategy on how best to roll out the vaccine will be presented to Government by the vaccine task force by December 11th.
Yesterday the UK became the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer/BioNTech jab, with vaccinations set to begin there next week.
