A cross border investigation has been launched after a man was abducted, badly beaten and left on the side of the road in Cavan last night.
The victim has been identified as the Director and Chief Operating Officer of construction suppliers Quinn Industrial Holdings, Kevin Lunney.
The PSNI says the 50-year-old was abducted from his home in Derryfin, Co Fermanagh at around 6.40pm yesterday evening.
He was discovered with serious wounds to his face and legs at the side of a road at Drumcoughill, Cornafean in Cavan just before 9pm.
A car was found on fire nearby.
Mr. Lunney has since been taken to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.
His employers Quinn Industrial Holdings have issued a statement alleging some senior members of staff have received threats of physical assault and arson in the past.
They are now calling for the police authorities north and south to bring those responsible to justice.
Investigating officers have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed a black saloon Audi being driven in the Derrylin, Fermanagh or Swanlinbar, Cavan areas yesterday to contact either the PSNI or An Garda Siochana.
