The rules for Pandemic Unemployment Payment Recipients travelling abroad are to be changed.
They will now be allowed to travel to any country on the Green List and continue to receive the payment.
Almost 287,000 people are currently receiving the PUP.
For countries that are not on the green list, recipients can travel for essential reasons only.
In a statement, the Department of Social Protection says "it must be for essential reasons such as a bereavement or health reasons. If you inform your Intreo Office in advance, your payment will not be impacted."
The same rules will apply for people on jobseekers allowance.
