Public transport capacity will increase to 100% from next week, the Department of Transport has confirmed.
It has been operating at 75% due to COVID-19 restrictions.
However, full capacity is returning in line with the return of schools and the expected phased return to workplaces in the coming weeks.
A return to full public transport capacity was originally targetted for earlier in the summer.
That was delayed due to the emergence of the Delta variant.
Mask-wearing rules remain in place across Luas, Irish Rail and bus services.
The easing of capacity limits on public transport comes as ministers prepare to finalise their plan for the further reopening of the country.
The full roadmap is set to be published on Tuesday.
