Public Consultation Open On Future Of Free-To-Air Events
The Department of Media has launched a public consultation over the future of free-to-air events on television.
A review into the events which should be on terrestrial television started in November 2020 - with the last review completed seven years ago.
Among the events already on the list include All-Ireland Championship finals and Ireland's games in both the women's and men's Six Nations.
Last year there was huge controversy surrounding GAA GO after a number of high profile intercounty games were aired behind a pay wall, with the same to happen again this summer.
Speaking at the launch of a public consultation, Minister Catherine Martin said, "“The review of the list of free-to-air events provides an opportunity to ensure that our most memorable sporting moments are retained on national TV for the people of Ireland to view together on an equal basis.
"Watching sporting or other events of national importance together creates a sense of community and national connectedness and should be accessible to everyone.”
The consultation is open until Tuesday, February 20th.
