Gardaí are advising people to be aware of a scam which has seen money stolen from bank accounts.
Officers say it's a particular problem in Dublin and involves fraudsters identifying a person's phone PIN number and stealing their phone.
Gardaí say on occasions, victims have been approached by a ‘good citizen’ who's offering a lift, or through a bogus taxi.
People are being warned that the thief steals someone's phone along with the device's PIN, often by befriending their intended victim.
Once the thief has access to certain apps and accounts on the device, there have been reports of money being transferred to a Revolut account belonging to the criminal.
It's reported the stolen money is later withdrawn from an ATM.
Gardaí are once again urging people to protect their phone's PIN number.
A number of searches have been carried out in Dublin city recently and stolen property has been recovered.
Two men have appeared in court charged in connection with the investigations.
