Private Seán Rooney will be laid to rest today in Co Donegal.
The 24-year-old died while on peacekeeping duty with UNIFIL while travelling to Beirut in Lebanon last Wednesday.
Hundreds gathered at the Holy Family Church in Dundalk in Co Louth this morning for his funeral mass
He will be given full military honours, which will include an escort of 30 people and a firing party.
Private Rooney grew up in Dundalk, and later moved to Newtown Cunningham in Donegal, where he will be buried at the All Saints Church in Colehill later this afternoon.
