Pressure Mounts On Laois County Council To Allow EP To Go Ahead


Pressure is mounting on Laois County Council amid calls to allow Electric Picnic to go ahead.

It comes as the Chief Medical Officer said large outdoor events would be allowed to proceed for vaccinated people.

Festival Republic, the organisers of Electric Picnic say they want an answer today.

Exactly three weeks ago, Laois County Council rejected permission for this year's festival due to public health grounds.

The event was pencilled in for three weeks later than usual at the end of September, to allow more people to get vaccinated, and more time in general to get precautions in place.

Dr Tony Holohan said yesterday that, from a public health point of view, he'd have no problem with the festival going ahead for vaccinated people.

He said there would still be concerns from a virus point of view, however its lower for vaccinated people.
