Katie Taylor made history overnight by unifying all four world lightweight titles with a narrow victory over Delfine Persoon in New York.
It secured her Persoon's WBC title, and she had previously won IBF, WBA and WBO prizes.
President Michael D Higgins tweeted his congratulations to Taylor:
“My warmest congratulations to @KatieTaylor on reaching the pinnacle of achievement in her sport, becoming the undisputed lightweight world champion.”

Meanwhile, the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, TD said:
"Huge congratulations to Katie Taylor on becoming the undisputed lightweight world champion at Madison Square Garden last night."
