President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina are attending mass at Dublin's Pro-Cathedral this morning - before attending today's national St Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin.
The President has already sent a message of goodwill to Irish people at home and abroad, reflecting that 'going green' has now the added relevance of caring for the environment.
The green theme will be reflected in all it's many variations from noon today - when the national parade takes to the streets of the capital.
Meanwhile, a spectacle's in store for people turning out to watch the Galway St. Patrick's Day Parade today.
Macnas will be bringing its magic to the city including a drumming troupe of teens aged 15 to 19.
The parade kicks off in Galway at half 11 this morning and they will perform a celebration of the dance between shadow and light.
