A post mortem exam is taking place this afternoon on the body of a woman found in a burnt out car in Co. Cork yesterday.
Her remains were found in the Doneraile area.
Gardai say the results of the post mortem will determine the course of their investigation.
A man in his 60s, who was rescued from a nearby river continues to receive treatment in Cork University Hospital.
His condition is believed to be stable.
It is understood the man and woman were known to each other, but not related.
The Garda Technical Bureau is continuing to carry out an examination of the scene and two vehicles.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Doneraile area between 3.00pm and 5.00pm on Thursday - particularly anyone with mobile phone footage or dashcam footage - to contact Fermoy Garda station on 025-82100 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800-666-111.
