A post mortem is due to be carried out this morning on the body of a woman, stabbed to death at her home in Dublin yesterday.
A samurai sword and a meat cleaver are among the weapons which may have been used during an attack.
The 57 year-old, named locally as Jean Eagers, was pronounced dead following the assault at her home in Hartstown.
A post mortem is due to be carried out on her body this morning, while a 60 year-old man remains in Garda custody.
"When Gardaí arrived at this particular house, there was a stand-off," says reporter with the Irish Independent, Conor Feehan.
"They wanted to get into the house. A man inside the house wouldn't let them in. Gardaí had to force their way into the house whereupon they discovered the severly injured woman."
