A Teddy's Ice Cream shop in Dublin was ordered to close its storage area last month after inspectors found rodent droppings there.
The business on Dun Laoghaire Harbour's East Pier battery was one of five to be sanctioned by the Food Safety Authority (FSAI) in July.
The ice cream shop is operated by Phoenix Wholesale and Retail Foods Ltd.
Rodent droppings were found in its storage area, which left packaging and foodstuffs exposed to contamination.
It was also found that the storage area was very poorly pest proofed, and posed a grave and immediate danger to public health.
As a result, the shop was ordered to close its food and packaging storage unit.
Rats were also an issue at the AIM Cash & Carry in Clondalkin.
Part of the premises was ordered to be closed after an open chocolate bar was found under shelving in the rear store and droppings spotted beside the partially eaten product.
Inspectors issued four other closure orders during July along with two prohibition orders.
