Pods And Masks Rules Will Be Scrapped In Schools From Monday

Social distancing pods and bubbles are gone, and sporting activities, music, singing and breakfast clubs can all resume in schools from Monday.

It's part of new guidance issued to schools by the Department of Education last night , which's encouraging them to return to normal routines and activities.

Mask wearing will no longer be required, however anyone wishing to continue wearing a mask should be allowed do so.

Extra curricular activities like sports, music and breakfast clubs can return, while restrictions on the use of changing rooms, PE lockers and staff rooms can also end.

General Secretary of the Association of Secondary Teachers, Kieran Christie, says there is some trepidation among some staff members.

"But I've every confidence that every school community will adapt and progress as cautiously as they can."

Staff and students will return to the class room next week, following the midterm break.
