Milk or no milk? Teabag in or out? Sugar or no sugar?
No two people like their cup of tea the same way, but an etiquette expert has revealed the perfect way to stir a cup of tea.
Speaking to the Mirror, Neil Phillips says most of us are making a key mistake when stirring, and apparently we should be stirring in straight lines from the top to the bottom of the mug rather than around the cup.
"It is about going from six to 12 very gently" Phillips says.
"If you're adding sugar it will allow it to dissolve properly. If you just stir it it will all fall to the bottom. You don’t need to do it for long, just a few goes."
"It just allows the tea and milk to blend together."
Another contentious issue around making a cup of tea is how strong or weak they like their cuppa.
When it comes to brewing time, Phillips says "it's personal preference, some people will just wait a couple of minutes."
He advises to leave your tea sit for around four or five minutes.
Now you can take that at face value and listen to the etiquette expert, however we've a feeling people are set in their ways when it comes to a cupán tae, and no etiquette expert will tell them otherwise...
... but that's none of our business.
