Car parking in State-owned buildings, that are well served by public transport, is to be phased out under a new climate target plan for the civil service.
Environment Minister Eamon Ryan is bringing the plan to Cabinet today, which will also see the end of single-use cups and cutlery in public service canteens.
The plan will allow some parking for those with disabilities, or who work shift patterns that aren't served by public transport.
Bike travel, in particular, will be prioritised while the public sector will be told to only buy or lease zero-emission vehicles, where possible.
The Public Sector Climate Action Mandate would also ban installing fossil fuel heating systems in new public sector buildings.
