"It's not a message that any of us want to be giving and it's not a message that parents want to be hearing but we do need to take basic precautions."
That was the message of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer yesterday, who said the more contacts a child has the more the virus spreads.
He's asked parents to stop and ask themselves if their child "needs to be engaging in everything they are engaging in."
Dr Ronan Glynn said if basic precautions are taken then "there's no reason why people can't do the things they normally do on Halloween".
4,393 cases of Covid-19 were reported in children aged 5-12 in the two weeks to last Monday.
That's an increase of 1,463 compared to figures from a similar period earlier this month.
