Over 6,300 people have applied to become a Garda after the deadline for the new recruitment drive closed on Friday.
According to new figures released by Gardaí, around 2,300 applicants were between the ages of 35 and 49.
It's after the age limit for applicants was raised from 35 to 50.
In total, 6,381 people applied to join the force by the time the deadline closed.
That's higher than the approximately 5,000 who applied in the last campaign 10 months ago.
Applicants will now undergo a series of assessments - including an online aptitude test, a competency-based interview and a fitness test.
An Garda Siochana says it intends to run recruitment campaigns every year, to ensure a steady stream of trainees entering the Garda College in Templemore.
