One In Three young People Suffer From "Menu Anxiety" When Eating Out
More than a third of young people suffer from "menu anxiety" when eating out.
34% of people aged between 18 and 24 ask someone else to speak to the waiter for them, while a similar number will choose their food based on what looks best on social media, according to a survey by Italian restaurant Prezzo.
Just under a third of young people get nervous when placing an order, while four in ten won't go to a restaurant unless they can see the menu in advance.
Overall, a fifth of diners say they get others to order on their behalf.
The main causes of "menu anxiety" are the cost of the meal, regretting what you've ordered and not seeing something you'd like on the menu.
However, one third of 34-44 year olds say hving too many dishes to choose from is a cause of worry for them.
Not being able to pronounce the items on the menu is another common worry, with nearly a quarter of people saying they'd cancel plans if they felt too overwhelmed by the menu.
