18 per cent of Irish adults have literacy difficulties and a quarter have numeracy problems according to an OECD study.
We rank 15th out of a survey of 24 countries for reading, indicating a high proportion of Irish adults have problems reading basic text.
The study also shows our numeracy skills are well below the OECD average lacing us 18th out of 24.
The study assessed the skills of nearly 6,000 people aged 16 - 65.
