An off-duty garda who was competing in the recent Dublin Marathon has handed back their medal, after reports they used the Luas during the race.
Organisers carried out an investigation, and say as per the rules and regulations of the marathon, this person will have their result removed from the records.
They will be disqualified from future Dublin Marathon or Dublin Race Series events.
They say the person has apologised and returned their finishing medal and T-shirt.
A garda spokesperson says they are currently conducting an internal fact-finding review of the matter.
The Irish Independent say the officer is a member of the Anti-Corruption Unit
