American senators have agreed a draft resolution on military action in Syria.
President Obama has won the backing of key figures in the U.S. Congress - including Republicans - in his call for limited military strikes on Syria.
Mr Obama says such action is needed to weaken the Assad regime's capabilities - following a chemical weapons attack near Damascus 2 weeks ago.
The resolution states that any strikes would have to take place within a 60 day time limit.
Barack Obama can extend that by 30 days unless congress withdraws its approval.
The resolution also says there will be no US boots on the ground in combat.
