Guinness World Records has promised to review its rules after a woman was denied her attempt to be the quickest to complete the London Marathon dressed as a nurse.
Jessica Anderson was told her time last Sunday wouldn't count because she wore trousers.
The previous record was 3:08:54 and she ran the 42.2km in a time of 3:08:22 but officials rejected her attempt.
GWR rules state a nurse's uniform must include a blue or white dress, a pinafore apron, and a traditional cap.
Speaking to Runner's World, Jessica said:
"I was quite taken aback when I read that they’d rejected my application and I did email them to ask them to reconsider but they said no."
"I get that it’s supposed to be a fun thing but their definition is just so outdated."
"Some of the nurses I work with do wear dresses but mostly we wear scrubs or a tunic and trousers - I’ve certainly never seen a male nurse wearing a dress to work."
