Seanad Eireann has survived the referendum on its abolition.
The No side prevailed by a margin of around 43,000 votes in what was a tense and close referendum
Though many rural constituencies voted Yes, the scale of the No vote in Dublin - which was over 60% in some areas - proved too high a barrier to surmount.
Campaigners on both sides are laying the blame for the defeat on the shoulders of Enda Kenny, and in particular over his decision not to engage in a live TV debate.
