New rural speed limit signs are to be introduced over the next two years.
The existing eighty kilometres per hour signs on narrow country roads (pictured below) and inappropriate speed limits will be removed.
Drivers will have to use their own judgement under the new system, but the speed limit will remain at eighty.

A new appeals mechanism is also being rolled out, to allow motorists highlight locations where limits are inappropriate.
