Supermarkets and pharmacies will have to accept physical cash under new plans to keep money in the economy.

Cabinet ministers are looking at new rules to ensure access to essential services like medicine and groceries.
The plans will also see rules brought around access to ATMs, with a certain number of ATMs per 100,000 people and within 10km of where people live.
The use of physical cash in the economy has fallen significantly since Covid-19, from €20 billion before the pandemic to €13.5 billion in 2022, ATM usage has fallen by almost 45%.
Also going before Cabinet ministers on Tuesday are plans to make sure people who rent out their rooms don't lose their entitlement to a medical card.
Certain medicines will soon going to be available over the counter like the contraceptive pill and medicines for minor illnesses.
