Iraq's President has ordered the formation of a new government - but has not nominated Nouri Al-Maliki to be the new Prime Minister.
Instead, he has asked Maliki's his main political rival Haider Abadi to form a new government.
Abadi has the backing of Iraq's Shia parties - who had previously supported Maliki.
However, the incumbent Prime Minister has made it clear he wants to hold onto his job.
It comes as the US arms Kurdish militia fighting against Islamist militants in Northern Iraq.
