Residents of Dublin's Orwell Road, where the Russian Embassy is located, are to be asked their views on a proposal to change the name of the street to 'Independent Ukraine Road'.
A sub-committee of Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown County Council voted unanimously in favour of the name change proposal.
At this evenings @dlrcc Meeting myself, @OConnorOisin & other members will submit the below motion calling for the council to engage with residents and rename the road the Russian Embassy is located to Independent Ukraine Road. #UkraineUnderAttack #StandWithUkraine️ 🇺🇦💙💛 pic.twitter.com/Hs0NW5m0EF

The motion was proposed by Labour Councillor Peter O'Brien, who says he was inspired by countries including Latvia, Lithuania, Albania and Norway, who've all changed the names of the streets housing Russian embassies to associate them with Ukraine.
He says the name change is intended as a 'gesture of solidarity' with the people of Ukraine.
It's now up to Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown Country council to hold a plebiscite - or v0te - of local residents to canvass their views
Orwell Road runs from Rathgar in Dublin 6 to Churchtown in Dublin 14 and spans two council areas .
The south east area cones under control of Dublin City Council - which will meet next Monday to consider re-naming their section of the road
