A murder investigation is underway in Co Louth, after a woman was found dead in Dundalk.
The woman, who was aged in her 60s, was found dead following an assault at a house on Bridge Street in Dundalk on Wednesday evening.
The scene was preserved ahead of a technical examination.
Officers say a post mortem examination has been carried out on the woman's body, however, the details aren't being released for operational reasons.
A Family Liaison Officer has also been appointed.
Investigating gardaí are appealing for information, particularly from anyone who was in the Bridge Street area on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
