Mother Pleads Guilty To Murder Of Two Children In Westmeath
A 49-year-old woman has admitted murdering her two children in Westmeath.
Lynn Eagar, of Winetown in Rathowen, Westmeath, was due to stand trial early next year, but was today handed a life sentence after pleading guilty to the murders.
Thelma Dennany was five-years-old; and her brother Michael was only two, when their mother set their car on fire in Multyfarnham on the 9th of September last year.
After she was sentenced, Garda Martina Walsh read out a statement on behalf of the families:
"Thelma and Michael were happy, fun loving children, overflowing with love and mischief.
"Had they grown up they might have changed the world because they changed ours.
"Their absence has cast a shadow on our lives.
"That shadow falls is testament to the brightness of their light.
"We are utterly lost without them."
