There were 83,662 vacant homes in Ireland last month according to figures compiled by GeoDirectory.
County Leitrim had the highest number of vacant homes during the fourth quarter of 2022 - at 12.2%. That's the equivalent of one in eight homes left empty
The northwest region is worst affected - with Mayo, Roscommon, and Donegal all recording high vacancy rates, at 11.2%, 10.7%, and 9.4% respectively.
On the other end of the spectrum, Dublin had the lowest vacancy rate at just 1.2%.
That was closely followed by Kildare at 1.3%.
Both counties had the biggest share of active building sites in December.
