The Children's Minister says he hopes parents with childminders will be able to benefit from cheaper childcare in the future.
Those with children in crèches will be able to get a 25% cut on their childcare costs from next year, as part of the budget.
A large portion of childminders aren't registered with Tusla, but Minister Roderic O'Gorman, says he hopes a simplified system can come in next year, to allow childminders onto the National Childare Scheme.
However, there have been some question marks over the 25% cut, which is only based on the average cost nationally, and not on what individual families are paying.
Parents can avail of a cut of up to €175 cut per month on their childcare costs from January, which represents less than 25% of what families are paying in some counties.
