Work being finalised on the Mica redress scheme with Ministers saying it will be published by Christmas

Families whose homes are affected by the defective blocks have been calling for a 100% redress scheme to rebuild their homes.

But plans have been delayed multiple times as the Government considers caps on the scheme.

"The key objective we're all working to ensure is that it's a comprehensive scheme that deals with the issue because this is something that will stay with homeowners for many years to come," says Agriculture Minister and Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue

The current redress scheme, established in January 2020, offers homeowners 90% of the cost of repairs; however, campaign groups are calling for that to be increased to 100%.

Last month, thousands of campaigners marched on Dublin calling for a 100% redress scheme. There have also been protests involving children of families affected by the crumbling blocks.

"I'm hoping to bring the revisions to the scheme to Cabinet next Tuesday," says Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien.

"We remain in contact with the working groups. Will residents know before Christmas? Absolutely. I can tell you that, and all the different measures in it."
