Measures unveiled to tackle alcohol misuse

Minimum pricing and advertising restrictions are among a range of new measures to tackle alcohol misuse.

The Government wants to curb the cheap sale of drink,  particularly in off licences and supermarkets.

Alcohol containers, such as bottles and cans, will carry health warnings and calorie levels.

There will also be restrictions on the advertising of alcohol on TV and radio from 2016, to evening hours.

However no decision will be made for at least 12 months on the banning of drinks companies sponsoring sports event.
