President Michael D. Higgins has paid tribute to the actress Maureen O Hara.
The star of the Quiet Man died in her sleep of natural causes at the age of 95.
President Higgins said 'the actress will be remembered as outstanding and versatile whose work, especially in film, will endure for many years to come'
In a statement this evening her children and grandchildren also emphasised her love of Ireland and her Irish heritage.
Maureen received her early training at the Abbey Theatre, and went on to become an artist whose talents were recognised and appreciated all around the world.
