The system of mandatory hotel quarantine is now in operation.
So far, 76 people have booked into the system.
37 people are due to begin their stay at the hotels between now and the end of March.
From today the system impacts anyone arriving in to the Republic from 33 designated high-risk countries.
It also affects passengers coming from other countries who do not have a negative covid-19 test taken within the 72 hours prior to their arrival.
They will have to quarantine in a hotel for 12 nights in a facility, at a cost of €1,875 per person.
Each arrival will be required to take a PCR test on day 10, and if the test doesn't detect Covid-19 they will be allowed leave on day 12.
If they test positive for Covid-19 their stay in the facility will be extended at a cost to the state.
