A post-mortem has confirmed that a Cork farmer who was killed at a hospital in the city yesterday died a violent death.
89-year-old Matthew Healy from Berrings in County Cork suffered critical injuries in an incident at Mercy University Hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr. Healy was receiving treatment in a six-bed unit at the General Medical Ward in the hospital.
It is believed he suffered serious head injuries in the attack.
His fellow patients alerted hospital staff and Gardaí were called shortly afterward.
A man in his 30s was arrested a short time later and taken to the Bridewell Garda Station where he is still being questioned this morning.
A post-mortem carried out yesterday confirmed that Mr. Healy died a violent death.
The scene was preserved overnight as Gardaí carried out a forensic and technical examination.
A family Liaison Officer is working with Mr. Healy’s loved ones.
