Waived Anonymity
Martin Doyle’s ex-wife, Olivia, and their daughter, Siobhán, both waived their right to anonymity so he could be named today.
His trial heard distressing details of how he raped Olivia on multiple occasions at the family home. On one occasion, she thought she was going to die.
Siobhán was just 7yo when he started abusing her.
In the years that followed, he sexual assaulted her in their home as well as in a tent on camping trips and when they went swimming in a lake on sunny, summer days.
Today, Ms Justice Caroline Biggs spoke about his high level of culpability, especially in terms of the breach of trust between husband and wife, and father and daughter.
She commended the two survivors, describing them as “incredibly strong and magnificent” women.
She also said Irish society owes them a huge debt of gratitude for coming forward.
Doyle was then jailed for 12.5 years.
