Murder Investigation Underway After Man (19) Shot Dead In Co Meath

A 19-year-old teenager who was murdered in Co Meath yesterday has been named as Conor O'Brien.

It has been confirmed that Conor died of a single gunshot wound, and no gun was found at the scene.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses, including anyone who noticed anything unusual in the area between Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Conor was originally from Gorey in Co Wexford but had been living in Enfield in recent months.

He is said to have been living in a “self-contained apartment at the rear of the main residence, owned by a family relative”.

His body was discovered at around 8:30 am on Friday morning, outside the house.

It was confirmed this afternoon that a murder investigation is now underway.

Gardaí say: “Investigations to date have determined that Conor was in contact with a family relative at approximately 8pm on the evening of Thursday 26th August.

“Investigations have also determined that a number of persons heard a single ‘bang’ on the evening of Thursday 26th August.”

Gardaí say Conor was not known to gardaí “in any form whatsoever”, and he was someone who was quiet and “very much kept to himself”.

They say they have no motivation for the killing so far, with detectives keeping an "open mind" at this stage of the investigation.

Officers have made a number of appeals for information.

They said: “Any person that was in the Trim Road, Enfield (R159) at or close to its junction with Main Street Enfield area between 8pm Thursday 26th August and 7am on Friday, 27th August, 2021, whether you believe you witnessed anything or not, to make contact with the investigating Gardaí.

“Any person driving or cycling on the Trim Road, Enfield (R159) or its junction with Main Street Enfield who may have either vehicle dashcam footage or any other video footage, between 8pm Thursday 26th August and 7am on Friday, 27th August, 2021, to make contact with the investigating Gardaí.”

Anyone with information can contact Trim Garda Station on 046 9481540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
