A Dublin man has been remanded in custody after being found with four loaded guns in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.
Gardai arrested Robert Smullens, of Halliday Road Dublin 7, during a routine speed check on the N2 outside Carrickmacross on Wednesday.
He tested positive for cocaine and opiates after a roadside drugs test, and four loaded pistols and ammunition were seized in a subsequent search of his car.
He was held at Carrickmacross Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
At a special sitting of Carrickmacross District Court this afternoon he was charged with four counts of the possession of a firearm and two counts of being in possession of different types of ammunition.
He was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison and will appear before Cloverhill District Court on September 5th.
