A man has died after he was hit by a car in Co Westmeath overnight.
The accident happened at Newcastle in Rochfortbridge just before half one this morning.
The 45 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene and the road remains closed for a forensic examination.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Mullingar Garda Station.
