A 30-year-old man who was described by a judge as having a “violent disposition towards women” has been handed a life sentence for murdering his girlfriend.
On April 17th last year, Gavin Murphy, of Coultry Drive, Ballymun, Dublin, stabbed Jennifer Poole seven times in her home while her young son was in her car outside.
“YET another case of a violent attack by a partner on a young woman”
Those were the words of Mr Justice Paul Burns before he handed Gavin Murphy (30) from Coultry Drive in Ballymun a life sentence for murdering his girlfriend Jennifer Poole (24).

At his sentencing hearing today, the judge was told that Murphy has a previous conviction for a serious assault on a former partner.

Ms Poole was a 24-year-old mother-of-two who played GAA for her local club and worked as a carer in a nursing home.
Her brother described her as a “devoted mother” to her two young kids.
