Police investigating the murder of Thomas O'Halloran in London have made an arrest.
The 87 year old, who was originally from Co. Clare, was stabbed on Tuesday afternoon as he was driving his mobility scooter close to his home in west London.
He'd left his native Ennistymon 71 years ago, but had travelled home to see family every year until around 10 years ago.
The Metropolitan Police say a 44 year old man was arrested in the Southall area of London in the early hours of this morning and is now in custody.
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood said: “I would like to thank the public for their overwhelming support following this horrific incident. As a result of the release of a CCTV image yesterday, an arrest has been made and this investigation is progressing at pace."
"Mr O’Halloran’s family have been updated with this development and continue to be supported by specially trained officers. I would reiterate their previous request that their privacy is respected by everyone as they continue to come to terms with their tragic loss."
It's reported Mr. O'Halloran, who was a musician, had been busking on the streets to raise money for Ukrainian refugees just before he was killed.
