A man in his twenties has been arrested by Gardai investigating the theft of an 800-year-old mummy head from a Dublin crypt.
It was taken from St Michan's Church near Smithfield last month, which was badly vandalised during a late-night raid.
The head of the Crusader mummy and another skull were found in a bag on the church grounds, which appeared to be dumped there two weeks after the theft.
No motive has been established for the theft and The National Museum of Ireland is advising on the restoration of the artifacts.
Gardaí have recovered the head of "The Crusader" and another skull taken from a crypt in St. Michan’s church over the weekend of 23rd/25th February. We would like to thank the public for their help. The investigation in ongoing pic.twitter.com/CdfOJUQmQV
