Gardai investigating the murder of a mother of two in Co. Westmeath at the weekend have arrested a man.

The body of 43-year-old Brigid Maguire was found at a house in Ballynacargy, Co Westmeath at 9:30pm on Saturday night.

The man in his 50's was arrested in Mullingar last night and is being held at Mullingar Garda Station.

Gardai are appealing to members of the public who may have seen anything suspicious in or around Ballynacargy between 5pm and 10pm on the night in question to contact them.
