Second Officer with Cork City Fire Brigade, Victor Shine, says crews tackled a substantial blaze.
"The fire was coming out through the roof and out through the windows of the front of the building, and fire crews then deployed firefighting teams into the building and deployed hydraulic platforms to deal with the fire from the outside.
"At 2.30 this morning, two members of the family were removed from the house deceased, unfortunately".
The Cork City Coroner has been informed, and the man's and woman's bodies have been taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem is due to take place.
