A Romanian man, who was extradited to Ireland from the UK last year, has admitted murdering Limerick pensioner, Rose Hanrahan.
Ms Hanrahan’s body was found by family members who called to her home at New Road, Thomondgate, Limerick in the lead up to Christmas 2017.
It is not clear when exactly Rose Hanrahan was killed, but Gardaí believe it was sometime between December 14th and December 15th 2017.
The 78-year-old widow was living alone at the time and the alarm was raised when relatives called over to her house.
Reports at the time suggested she had been strangled following a break-in.
The main suspect, Alexandru Iordache, left the country afterwards but was taken into custody in the UK last year on foot of a European Arrest Warrant.
Upon his return, he was charged with Ms Hanrahan’s murder and was due to stand trial next month.
However, through an interpreter this morning, the 46-year-old Romanian pleaded guilty and said he felt sorry for what he did.
Rose’s family was in court to hear it and they will be given an opportunity to deliver a victim impact statement at his sentence hearing on July 5th.
