A 50 year old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with the murder of 44 year old Audrius Butkus whose body was discovered on a beach at Mornington, Co. Meath on the 10th September last.
Marius Gaizutis of Marsh Road, Drogheda, county Louth is accused of the murder at Marsh Road, Drogheda between the 9th-10th September 2013.
At Dundalk district court this afternoon garda sergeant Liam Archbold, Laytown, gave evidence of arresting him at Fr Connolly Way, Drogheda at 6.25pm last Monday on suspicion of the murder of Audrius Butkus..
At 12.10am today on direction of the DPP he charged him with the offence.
Sgt Archbold asked for the accused to be remanded in custody to Cloverhill district court next Tuesday.
Defence solicitor Sean T O’Reilly said he was not objecting to this.
Judge Flann Brennan adjourned the case until then.
Mr Butkus’s body was found by a member of the public out walking their dog on Mornington beach.
