Former solider Lisa Smith’s trial for alleged ISIS membership is due to get underway today.
The 39-year-old, from Dundalk, Co Louth, is also facing a charge of financing terrorism before the Special Criminal Court.
She is accused of being a member of the unlawful terrorist group ISIS or Islamic State on dates between late October 2015 and December 1st 2019
She’s also accused of financing terrorism through an €800 Western Union transfer.
Her application to have the charges against her dropped was rejected yesterday.
Due to the nature of the charges, it's being heard before three judges of the non-jury Special Criminal Court.
Ms Smith appeared in court on bail yesterday to hear the court’s ruling on her application to dismiss the charges.
She's due back at 10.30am this morning for day one of what’s expected to be a 12-week trial.
