Leaving Cert students are set to be given the option of sitting their exams, receiving a calculated grade , or both.
This will be the case in each individual subject the government has decided.
Whatever the better result is between those two will then be taken towards their final result.
Oral examinations will be held during the Easter break or shortly after.
The Department of Education says coursework will also go ahead in subjects where these form a normal part of the examination.
Students will be given extra time to complete this work.
It says practical examinations will not be able to be conducted for some subjects given public health considerations.
The oral and coursework components will not be taken into account in the calculated grades model.
The timetable for the written examinations in June will be published tomorrow.
Students will not have their calculated grade issued ahead of the written exams.
The Junior Cert exams will not be held this year.
